Billy Abildgaard - Handyman

Billy holds an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management and a Graduate Certificate in Engineering Business - all from Northeastern University.

With over ten years of experience in the construction industry, he specializes in gut renovations of properties. His expertise spans across kitchens, bathrooms, electrical systems, plumbing, and structural improvements. He has a strong background in managing complex projects and delivering high-quality results that meet and exceed client expectations.

When not on the job, he enjoys spending time with family and exploring the outdoors. Whether it’s hiking, biking, or simply enjoying a peaceful day at the park, he finds that being in nature helps him recharge and stay focused on his work.

Billy’s favorite tool is the Milwaukee multi-tool. Its versatility and precision make it invaluable for detailed finish work and precise cuts. “Whether I’m working on intricate trim or cutting through tough materials, this tool consistently delivers the accuracy and efficiency I need.”

As a general contractor, his favorite challenge is tackling complex problems that others might find intimidating. He thrives on navigating these issues to create optimal outcomes. Whether it’s a structural anomaly or a unique design challenge, he finds great satisfaction in solving difficult problems and delivering exceptional results.

In his own words: “I enjoy helping people on Handily because it allows me to give clients peace of mind. Derek Carvalho - Master Plumber

Derek is a licensed Master Plumber and has worked in plumbing for 24 years. He spent 14 years working in commercial, industrial and residential settings and has experience ranging from building high schools to fixing toilets in homes. “I know a lot of everything at this point,” he says.

He is currently a teacher at Diman Vocational High School in Massachusetts where he has taught plumbing for the last 10 years.

He also maintains a plumbing business on the side where he works in both commercial and residential settings.

On the job, Derek likes reading blueprints and trying to figure out the job. He says it’s the hardest but the most enjoyable part of the job.

When not on the job, Derek loves to be outside. He especially loves landscaping and says that if he could do it all over again, he’d be a landscaper.

Here’s Derek in his own words: I like helping people on Handily because I’m a DIYer at heart and so I enjoy empowering homeowners to fix stuff themselves - and sometimes they just need a little advice.

Doug Doughty - General Contractor

Doug is a licensed General Contractor based in Massachusetts.

Doug has been involved in building and constructions since the 1980s. He started his own company doing kitchen and bath remodeling and then transitioned into working as a site manager for large construction projects in the Boston area.

When not doing anything in the field you can find Doug riding the area on his motorcycle.

His favorite tool is the fein tool, an oscillating saw that is incredibly versatile.

In his own words: “I love finding answers to perplexing issues that come up in the real world. For that same reason, I like explaining fixes and helping people get to resolution.”

Ryan Medeiros - HVAC Technician

Ryan is a licensed HVAC technician with over 23 years of experience in the field. His credentials include licensure in refrigeration and sheet metal. Ryan has extensive HVAC experience working across technologies and settings: supermarkets, walk-in coolers, freezers, ice machines, commercial and industrial chillers, high-rise buildings, restaurant equipment, and residential heating and air conditioning systems.

In addition to his field experience, Ryan taught HVAC for three years at Diman Vocational Technical High School in Fall River, MA. In 2011, Ryan founded his own business RAM Heating & Cooling in Somerset, MA which serves both residential and commercial clients.

When not on the job, Ryan enjoys camping and spending quality time with his family. His favorite tools are his refrigerant gauges and electrical meter, essential for diagnosing HVAC issues. Ryan finds great satisfaction in the service aspect of his job, particularly in diagnosing and solving complex problems that others couldn’t figure out.

In his own words: “I like helping people on Handily because it’s rewarding knowing someone has a problem and they’ve chosen you to fix it and you’re able to get them out of a jam. I like helping people, that’s always been my thing.”
